2.4 Reflecting on my performance

Reflecting on our performance
Reflecting on my rehearsals

How well did I manage at the rehearsals?

In think that my group ‘Celebrity and Fanatics’ worked hard through all the rehearsals because we all made the effort to attend and be punctual. We also made sure that we all practised hard through rehearsals and discussed what improvements needed to be made if there was anything we weren’t happy with.

During some rehearsals, some performers were too busy talking and got distracted which made it difficult for me to practise. However we had a group leader who made sure we stayed on task and practised. We also asked each other and the other performers for feedback to find out if there was anything that we could change or improve. Our group also made sure that we had all the props we needed before hand.

One of our concerns was that we didn’t really focus on the lighting and sound effects that we needed during the performance. We left this until the last couple of rehearsals which wasn’t very wise of us because we had to make quick decisions about the types of lighting and what sound effects to gather.

Reflecting on the performance

What went well

I think that the make-up was a great success because it looked really good. The face paints suited the performance and everyone complimented on it. Our make-up artist did a really good job. As there was no other mime performance in our school before, the audience seemed to enjoy it and thought it to be original. Also because it was a different take on mime, it was mainly based on comedy.

What didn’t go well

I think that the lighting and the sounds didn’t go as well as planned mainly because we left it till the last minute and didn’t plan it very well. I had to wait for a couple of seconds for the lighting to come on which made the audience wait. This affected the atmosphere of the performance and the mood created and this was one of our weaknesses.

How will I prevent this happening next time

To prevent his form happening next time, I will make sure that lighting and sound is mentioned earlier and the technicians make an effort to collect all the required sounds quicker.

What I have learned

This opportunity taught me how to act and take on certain responsibilities during a performance. I have also learned that I should give constructive criticism when I think that someone’s idea isn’t relevant and doesn’t work towards common goals.

Who have I asked

I have asked the audience what they thought about our performance and if there was anything we needed to change to improve. We also asked Ben Cole, our school events organiser about what he thought of our performance. He said that it was great and really different which made it the more enjoyable.

2.3 - Mime performance

2.3 Refining Ideas

A way in which we thought we could improve our performance by was cutting out some of the paired performances. This was Zara's and Suma's pair because they were not quite sure about what they were going to do. Also we decided to cut mine and Rubina's paired performance out becasue we were not really rehearsed and didn't really know what we were going to do. We also decided to cut out the dance number in the beginning because not everybody could keep up with the dance routine and some found it very difficult.

2.3 Health and safety in our performance

Health and Safety

My role was the prop manager and I was responsible for making sure that all the props are ready for the performance. Along with my partner who is also in charge of props, we had to ensure that the props were safe to use and harmless. We had to make sure that the props wouldn’t cause injuries or accidents whilst being handled. So when selecting the props, we thought about all the risks that could be caused and chose the prop which had the least number of risks, that way the actors or people handling the props are safer.

In our performance, there was a scene where one of the actors had to move chairs and she had to be careful not to hurt anybody else near her or any of the actors back stage. Another thing that we didn’t do abiding by the health and safety rules is that it was really dark, there was nobody there to show them the path, someone could’ve tripped over the satires and hurt themselves and then the injuries would've affected whether they could perform or not.

Also the costumes designer had to ensure that the costumes were appropriate and safe to wear and perform in. The make-up artist had to test out all the make-up before applying it to any of the actors just in case of any allergic reactions.

2.2.7 Character profile

Name: Unknown
Status: Victoria Beckham's assistant

She is a woman who follows Victoria around wherever she goes to make sure she is safe. She fixes Victoria up every few minutes or so and ensures she is always out of trouble. She holds her bag and other belongings and abides by Victoria's rules. She wears smart clothing and is seen as high status just because she stays with Victoria Beckham.

2.2.6 Production meetings

Group Meeting:

We got into our groups and discussed how we would like our lighting to be. Everyone inputted their ideas and this generated more ideas. We also spoke to the lighting technician about the beginning of the ‘Fan and Celebrity’ group performance. A s a group we decided that we wanted the light to jump back and forth form the fans and then a spotlight on ‘Victoria’ as she walks towards the audience.
We also discussed about the sound and what sounds we needed to record.
Sound FX: camera shots, cheering crowd, creeping footsteps and sirens.
Record: ‘Oh my gosh it’s Victoria Beckham’ and screaming.

Research activity
Many forms of performance began in religious rites and ceremonies. The tragedies and comedies that are the roots of many modern plays originated in festivals for the god Dionysus in ancient Greece. Terms such as chorus and scene were first used in Greek theatre.
Punk rock:

  • when and where the form originated
Punk rock is a style of music. Punk rock developed in the mid-1970’s in New York City. Bands like The Ramones, Television, Blondie, and Patti Smith played loud, angry songs. Many bands played at a club called CBGB's. In Britain, bands started playing punk rock in 1976-1977.
  • early examples
Bands like The Ramones, Television, Blondie, and Patti Smith played loud, angry songs. Many bands played at a club called CBGB's.

  • people who were involved at the beginning.
Punk rock was originally used to describe garage musicians in the 60’s. People in bands sang and played to the top of their lungs. Punk rock musicians didn’t have a clue about the rules of music and that’s why they broke them. Punk rock musicians got their rebellious reputation also because of the way they dressed.
