1.4 Guide to the Local Creative and Media Scenes
My partner and I worked together using all the research and notes from our visits to produce this guide for our target audience.
1.4 Plan
Audience - Visitors in the local area (Older people who have money to visit the venues we will be including in the guide. Mainly 16+)
Contribution - I am working in a pair (Moushomi Hanif) and I will do the voice over for some parts of the guide and so will my partner. I will also edit the first half of the guide and write parts of the script. My partner and I both took photographs to be used in our guide when we visited them.
Structure - I will structure the guide randomly e.g. visual arts and performing arts and media all mixed up. At the beginning w should introduce media, visual arts and performing arts. We will include photographs while talking about a specific venue.
Distribution - We will put the video guide on YouTube as most people go on the internet a lot. If there was a borough website, I would put it up there because people would visit the borough website now and again. If I had the money, I would put the video in the underground so as people go by, they’ll notice it. Also, I would ask colleges to show the video to the students as I am trying to get younger people to take notice of it.
1.4 Photography
Scene Notes - Distribution of guide
Distribution of guide:
I think that making the guide in video format is better because it is both visual and audio which makes it more attracting. Also since my target audience is young people (16+), they would enjoy video better than just text or audio. It would be quite boring for them, that is why video format is a better alternative to them.
The video would be put up on YouTube as most of my audience spend their time on the Internet and that way, there would be more viewers. If I had the money, I would put the video in the underground so as people go by, they’ll notice it. Also, I would ask colleges to show the video to the students as I am trying to get younger people to take notice of it.
Scene Notes - Target audience
Target Audience:
I am preparing this guide for teenagers and people who are looking for local venues for entertainment. My guide will have language that is easy to understand and will be eye catchy. The music used will be appropriate because we won’t use music with heavy beats or classic, just something that suits all age groups.
My audience can be visitors who want to visit local creative and media venues or people who live locally within the area. My guide will inform people of the creative and media venues and what they offer.
The audience needs to be interested in media obviously and arts as the whole guide will be informing the audience of creative and media venues locally.
They don’t need a lot of money to visit these venues that will be in my guide but they will need some because the places wont be free.
The audience doesn’t need to travel a lot because the venues that will be in my guide will only be locally.
The audience are required to speak English and understand it but it doesn’t matter if its not fluent English as long as they can understand most of it.
Scene Notes - Target audience Questionnaire

From the analysis of the results from the questionnaire that my partner and I produced, I found that all age groups would enjoy both visual and audio presentations and they would all prefer images, effects and music throughout the guide. Most 11-16 year olds and 17-25 years olds are willing to travel long distances for entertainment but only over 25 year olds would spend a lot of money for entertainment.
Also the majority of my audience would prefer a shorter guide over a long one.

1.3 Critical Response
Reviewers Rating: 4/5
Reviewed by: Shapla Arjan
At first glance, Fame seems like another one of those throwaway dance movies like Take the lead and Save the last dance. But, on closer examination, Kevin Anchormen’s masterpiece demonstrates real life dilemmas through the incomparable performances from the wonderful cast. With its breathtaking dances, endowed singers and precise artists, the movie will undoubtedly blow you away.
The movie opens with talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists auditioning for admittance to New York City High School of Performing Arts who are each given a chance to live out their dreams and achieve real and lasting fame...the kind that comes only from talent, determination, and hard work. As each student endeavours for his or her moment in the spotlight, they’ll discover who among them has the inborn talent and essential discipline to succeed. With the love and support of their friends and fellow artists, they’ll find out who amongst them will achieve Fame…
The cast all seem to be enjoying themselves, outstanding performances from Panabaker, Naughton and Pennie that keep the film moving over well. A comment I’d like to make though is that Marco didn’t make his character sound so believable. When you watch the film, his acing sort of broke off the wonderful performances from everybody else. The audience weren’t able to sympathise with him when they are supposed to, that’s how bad it is.
The moment I heard that Fame is a performing arts film, I was literally dying to watch the movie. For those of you that enjoy movies like Step-up, I recommend you most definitely go and watch it.
The dancing style of the movie is mainly ballet that wouldn’t really appeal to teens but still it’s worth sitting through 100 minutes of it. The fact that Fame includes ballet makes it different from other dance movies. As it consists of ballet makes it appealing to all age groups although the film is mostly teen.
The costumes used for the ballet dancing are black leggings and a white top, which in my opinion is suitable. The characters are dressed casually just like you and me! It was really quite obvious to see how much in reality was spent on the clothing because you can easily find it shops like Primark! The audience wouldn’t expect the actors to be wearing big designer shoes and bags because the characters are students, not rich, famous pop stars.
The make-up of the characters were suitable too because it made the characters look casual and when necessary, the actors wore more make-up i.e. in parties etc. Wearing the right amount of make-up is important because as teenagers might look up to the actors and if they wore inappropriate amount of make-up, it would affect the audience.
The music features a blend of American standards and there were a few newly composed for the movie. ‘Out here on my own’ from the original movie also appears in Fame (2009). The soundtrack fits perfectly, and sets the theme from the offset.
The technicalities of the film aren’t much to write home about. The film features many close-ups, which really give you the feel of the characters emotions. Tracking is also used to move from one dance to the next in the cafeteria dance. The lighting was appropriate because in one scene the cast were at a club and there were blue and dark lights, which set the mood for the club.
I assume Fame is to some extent different from other performing arts films as there is more than one story and more than 1 or 2 main characters. Like in Step Up, the main characters are Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan with Channing Tatum as a gangster doing community service in a school, which he and his friends vandalised and Jenna Dewan, a student preparing for her ‘senior showcase’ and when they meet the climax of the film begins. Fame is unique as each student has their own problem but eventually they succeed.
I know some of you may be asking whether it fits into any particular genre. Well I think it is probably a mixture of romance, musical and teen however it is suitable for all age groups as the storyline is rather impressive.
The storyline is pretty impressive and the dancing is just mind-blowing. I definitely recommend this film to everybody. I rate this film 4 out of 5, now its up to you to watch it your self and rate it!

1.3.1b Other reviews
1 ‘The film was too long and it was boring.’
* What should the reviewer go on to write?
The film was long and not what I was expecting. I didn’t find it enjoyable and I thought it was quite boring.
2 ‘I don’t know what I thought of this book but my friend thought it was really interesting.’
* Why is this not a good thing to say in a review?
Because the reader is looking for your opinion and you’re the reviewer so it’s meant to be your opinion. The friend should’ve just written the review.
3. ‘For a children’s play there was not a lot of action. The bit with the lion was good but it got boring from then on.’
* Why might this not be helpful to an audience?
This wouldn’t be helpful because the audience haven’t watched the play yet so they do not know about the lion bit and what was before it or after. So it is irrelevant to say what the reviewer found boring.
* How could the reviewer make it more useful?
The reviewer could’ve explained a little bit more about what came before it and why after that part it got boring. They also could’ve said whether they thought the play is worth watching as they are saying ‘it got boring from then on’
1.3.1a Developing opinions
* From one of the sources you have been looking at, find a review of something that you yourself have experienced: a film, television programme, game, book etc.
* Read the review carefully and analyse it as above, identifying how the reviewer felt about the subject of the review.
* Do you agree with the reviewer’s opinion?
* If so, why? If not, why not? What do you think? Record your thoughts below.

In this review, the reviewer wasn’t impressed by the storyline. ‘The film isn't impressive as a story’. The film is predictable and you know where it’s heading and the reviewer’s views are the same. I agree with the reviewer because I also think that the storyline isn’t that interesting, just like any other dance movie.
The reviewer thinks that the dancing is very good and I agree with the reviewer here because I also thought that the dancing is impressive and it is better than the movie. The dancing is what keeps the audience entertained throughout.
‘It's cool, providing you can put up with a crud story.’ The reviewer says that the film is okay and I agree because I wouldn’t say that the film is excellent. I would definitely recommend it thought to people who enjoy dance films because I was really impressed by the dancing.
In my opinion, I think the movie is worth watching and the dancing was excellent and entertaining. Although the storyline wasn’t as good as the dancing, I still enjoyed the film.

We visited Birbeck University and met professionals who work in the creative and media industry. We asked a couple of questions to each of the people that we met.
BBC representative: Phillip Thomas who is the recruitment manager for news/sports/audio music/radio/TV and online.
I learnt that he worked in this position for 7 years till now and he said that you have to be a great communicator and team player in order to do well at the job.
We also met Kumar Kamalagharan who is a tour manager for the band Razorlight. Kumar started off by booking for gigs and then he got employed as first assistant. He then worked his way up to becoming a director of touring for 'Fruit Pie Music'.
His job:
· He manages the budget for the tour
· He employs crew for sound and lighting
· He organizes transport, hotel bookings for the crew and the band
1.2 Jobs in the Media Industry in the Local area
Animator: You need good drawing skills and take constructive criticism. You also need to be able to meet deadlines and have good leadership skills. You need to be able to work in a team and this job could be found in Bangla TV, Voice of Africa Radio and certain theatres too.
Choreographer: Must meet deadlines and have good leadership skills. Qualifications in dance and experience is required and this job could be found in Chisenhale dance studio.
Front of House Manager: They are responsible for managing the stage and props. They need to be experienced and have good communicating skills. This job can be found in all areas of the media department.

1.1 My Expectations and Experiences
I expect to find staff who are proud to be working in their radio station. I also expect to find the latest technology and a big recording studio with microphones etc.
When we visited VOAR, I learned that VOAR was set up on the 1st January 2000. After it was opened, it was still unlicensed and covered all over London. VOAR proudly launched this radio station to eliminate exclusion and marginalization and to inform the African community about the events available all over the world, not just in their country. VOAR achieved success and popularity and it was beyond description. In June 2002, VOAR recieved an award for excellence and communal spirit which was presented by Ghanaian High Commissioner Mr Isaac Osei.
Listeners were mostly young but various African High Commissioners. Overall, VOAR are a very successful radio station who have come a long way.
Stratford Picture House
I expect there to be a front of house manager and other staff. I also expect there to be posters of films showing currently. My experience was really good and I enjoyed it. There were many promotional posters which was interesting to look at.
Stratford Theatre Royal
I expect to see lots of front of house people and backstage, I expect to find actors, musicians, dancers, choreographers, voice coaches, directors, make-up artists, costume designers, producers, assistants and runners and many more. I think that there would be alot of people backstage doing their job. It would've been very busy.
Stratford Circus
My visit to Stratford Circus was mainly for research. I saw that there was a front of house person and we got to speak to them too. The front of house person told us how he answered phone calls and helped people when they first enter.
Nettie Horn Art Gallery
I expect there to be lots of art works on display for everyone to see. I also expect there to be a person who will guide us and show us around the gallery. When I visited the gallery, I saw that it was manily one type of artwork (sculptures) and it wasn't very busy. There weren't many staff there but we met two of the staff there. They told us that most of their artwork is for sale that's why there isn't much artwork in the gallery.
