1.1 My Expectations and Experiences

Voice of Africa Radio (VOAR)
I expect to find staff who are proud to be working in their radio station. I also expect to find the latest technology and a big recording studio with microphones etc.
When we visited VOAR, I learned that VOAR was set up on the 1st January 2000. After it was opened, it was still unlicensed and covered all over London. VOAR proudly launched this radio station to eliminate exclusion and marginalization and to inform the African community about the events available all over the world, not just in their country. VOAR achieved success and popularity and it was beyond description. In June 2002, VOAR recieved an award for excellence and communal spirit which was presented by Ghanaian High Commissioner Mr Isaac Osei.
Listeners were mostly young but various African High Commissioners. Overall, VOAR are a very successful radio station who have come a long way.

Stratford Picture House
I expect there to be a front of house manager and other staff. I also expect there to be posters of films showing currently. My experience was really good and I enjoyed it. There were many promotional posters which was interesting to look at.

Stratford Theatre Royal
I expect to see lots of front of house people and backstage, I expect to find actors, musicians, dancers, choreographers, voice coaches, directors, make-up artists, costume designers, producers, assistants and runners and many more. I think that there would be alot of people backstage doing their job. It would've been very busy.

Stratford Circus
My visit to Stratford Circus was mainly for research. I saw that there was a front of house person and we got to speak to them too. The front of house person told us how he answered phone calls and helped people when they first enter.

Nettie Horn Art Gallery
I expect there to be lots of art works on display for everyone to see. I also expect there to be a person who will guide us and show us around the gallery. When I visited the gallery, I saw that it was manily one type of artwork (sculptures) and it wasn't very busy. There weren't many staff there but we met two of the staff there. They told us that most of their artwork is for sale that's why there isn't much artwork in the gallery.
